Numerous felony charges filed against Celina man
A Celina man now faces multiple felonies after being charged with a second vehicle theft.
Rogelio "Roy" Rodriguez, 37, 440 Touvelle St., Lot 18, is scheduled to appear Jan. 8 in Celina Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing on two counts each of theft, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Both criminal cases involve specifications because the victims were elderly.
Rodriguez was apprehended driving a 1996 Ford pickup truck southbound on Mill Street near Anthony Street at 12:05 a.m. Dec. 31.
The truck had been reported stolen by the owner, Earl Heyne, at 8:24 p.m. Dec. 30, according to Celina Police Department reports.
The vehicle had been parked at the trailer court with the key in the ignition prior to the alleged theft, according to Celina Police Department reports.
Upon further investigation, authorities linked Rodriguez to an earlier theft of a motor vehicle from the same trailer court.
A 1996 Mercury Montego, belonging to Betty Ausland, 440 Touvelle St., Lot 17, was reported stolen Nov. 15 and found abandoned two days later in Lima.
Lima police officers reportedly had contact with Rodriguez, who was seen in the vehicle, before it was entered as stolen in the state law enforcement data base.
Both sets of charges were filed Monday afternoon in municipal court.
Rodriguez remains incarcerated at the Mercer County Jail on a $150,000 cash bond.
