St. Henry second at Kewpee Invite

St. Henry, having started the season with a tough schedule, looks to turn the corner after finishing second at the Kewpee Invitational held Saturday at Bath High School, improving the Redskins to 4-10 on the season.
The Redskins won their opening match over Spencerville 25-13 and 25-7, setting up a semifinal match with Midwest Athletic Conference rival Parkway. The Redskins prevailed 25-22 and 25-17 to advance to the finals against Orrville. The Red Riders captured the invitational title, but the Redskins forced the final to three games as Orrville won 25-19, 11-25 and 27-25.
Stat leaders on the day for the Redskins were Chelsey Kremer with 16 kills and Shelby Buschur with 15 kills. Buschur added 12 blocks and Rachel Borgerding finished with 38 assists.
The Panthers, who won their opening game over Wayne 25-11 and 25-15, rebounded to take third place in the tournament, defeating Old Fort 25-17 and 25-13.
Cardinals take two
New Bremen traveled to Covington for a trimatch with the Buccs and defending Division III state champion Anna.
The Cardinals opened the morning with a sweep over the host Buccs 25-11 and 25-15. Michelle Griesdorn and Jackie Dabbelt each had five kills in the match.
The Cardinals next faced the Rockets, who saw a 37-match win streak snapped on Tuesday at the hands of Marion Local. The Rockets won the opening game 25-11 before New Bremen came back to take the match with game wins of 25-21 and 25-20. Griesdorn and Taylor Jones each had six kills with Jones also recording 13 assists.
Tigers down Roughriders
Versailles hosted St. Marys on Saturday morning in a battle of area teams. The Tigers stayed perfect on the season with a three-game win to go to 12-0. The Tigers won with scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-10.
Emily Bohman came up big serving, tallying 22 service points, including five aces, to go along with 12 digs. Justine Raterman also had five aces to go with 14 kills and four blocks.
Versailles travels to St. Henry on Tuesday.
Rangers split tri
New Knoxville traveled to Bascom to face Hopewell-Loudon and Monroeville in a Saturday tri.
The Rangers defeated Monroeville in the first match 25-22 and 25-21 before losing to the host Cheiftains 19-25 and 18-25.
CROSS COUNTRY
Wildcats sweep at Eaton
The Minster boys and girls cross country teams took home titles at the Eaton Invitational on Saturday.
The boys captured the High School Section II title with 76 points, edging runner-up Russia's 85 points. New Bremen took third over Fort Loramie via the sixth-runner tiebreak after both teams scored 74 points. Fort Recovery placed 15th.
Minster's Kregg Olding was the first area runner across the finish line with a third-place finish in 16:49.92. Joby Stechschulte was 11th overall. Jeff Kremer was the first Cardinal to finish, placing 14th with teammate Kyle Knapke taking 20th. Ryan Heitkamp was the first Fort Recovery finisher, taking 54th.
The Wildcat girls dueled with Fort Loramie for the team title in Girls Section II. Minster beat out Loramie 39-54 for first place. Fort Recovery took fourth with 117 points with New Bremen 10th.
Minster got the win with solid pack running. The first Minster finisher was Lei Bornhorst in fifth place, but right behind her were teammates Jessica Albers, Maria Dahlinghaus and Averie Bornhorst in sixth, seventh and eighth places. Emily Freytage took 14th to get all five scoring runners in.
Mindy Vogel placed ninth to pace Fort Recovery while New Bremen was led by Alexis Niekamp's 44th-place finish.
Celina strong at Cedarville
Both Celina cross country teams placed well at at the Cedarville Cross Country Invitational, which has races for both high school and college teams.
The Celina girls placed second in the 21-team Blue Division with 95 points. Periennial-power Milton-Union took first with 19 points. Melissa Roth paced Celina with a second-place finish in 20:01.53. LaRae Dorsten was 12th with Rachel Young 15th.
The Celina boys placed third in the bigger-school Gold Divsion with 56 points behind big school powers Northwestern and Lakota West. Andrew Goodwin continued his strong season, placing fourth in a time of 16:50.29. Isaac Niekamp placed eighth with Peter Starnes and Mitch Williams taking 13th and 14th. Luke Bonvillian finished 17th to round out the scoring runners.
BOYS GOLF
Bulldogs first at Delphos
Celina captured the Delphos Invitational on Saturday at the Delphos Country Club. The Bulldogs shot an 18-hole round of 322, 11 shots better than Ottoville and Kalida. The Big Green took second place based on fifth-golfer tiebreak.
Paul VanDeventer dueled with St. John's Brad Wannemacher for medalist honors on the day. Wannemacher took honors with a 73 with VanDeventer carding a 74 for runner-up. Scott Fleck added a 79 for Celina with Dylan Correll adding an 81.
Redskins beat Cardinals
The St. Henry boy's golf team had two golfers shoot sub-40 rounds to lead the Redskins past New Bremen, 159-177.
Ryan Siefring fired a 36 for medalist honors while teammate Erick Stout added a 38. Doug Bruns and Sean Watercutter added a 42 and 43, respectively.
Johnathan Gilberg was the low man for New Bremen with a 39.
The St. Hernry jayvee team also won, 204-212.
BOYS SOCCER
Bulldogs, Pirates tie
Celina saw its record go to 4-3-1 on the season after playing Bluffton to a 1-1 tie on Saturday at the Soccer Stadium.
After the Pirates scored on a penalty kick five minutes into the second half, Celina squared the match as Aaron Schmitt scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs.
The jayvee Bulldogs also finished in a 1-1 tie with Bluffton. Bryan Orick had the lone goal for Celina.
