Fort Recovery man held
Walter Call allegedly tried to smuggle drugs into Lima prison
A Fort Recovery man is being held in the Allen County Jail after he allegedly attempted to bring drugs onto the grounds of the Allen Correctional Institution in Lima.
Walter J. Call II, 47, 117 E. Broadway St., was arrested at 10:15 p.m. Thursday after Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction investigators received information that an unidentified individual was planning to deliver drugs onto the grounds.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers set up surveillance and observed Call place a box beneath a trailer at the back of the facility. He was taken into custody without incident.
The contents of the box reportedly included methamphetamines, marijuana, OxyContin tablets, weight-lifting supplements and cell phones.
While Call was not inside the institution ringed with razor-wire topped fence, he was on the surrounding ODRC property which constitutes a criminal offense, according to Lt. Tony Bradshaw of the patrol's communications office. The patrol investigates criminal activity on state owned and/or leased property.
The area man, who is being held on a $100,000 cash bond, was scheduled to appear Friday in Lima Municipal Court. However, information regarding that appearance was not available prior to court closing for the weekend.
The conveyance charge, a third-degree felony, carries the possibility of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine upon conviction.
