President enters guilty plea for DUI

Minster board of education

By Margie Wuebker
Dale Sherman, president of the Minster Local Schools board of education, pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle under the influence during a recent appearance in Auglaize Municipal Court.
Judge Gary Herman imposed a $200 fine plus $605 in court costs. He also dismissed remaining charges in the case - fleeing and eluding, obstructing official business, failure to drive in marked lanes of travel and turn/stop signal violations.
The charges against 48-year-old Sherman, a resident of 8 Settlers Lane, stem from a March 18 traffic stop near his home.
Sherman was driving a 2007 Nissan northbound along North Main Street at 3 a.m. when Minster Patrolman Kevin Draiss allegedly spotted the vehicle travel outside the marked lanes of travel.
The police officer reportedly turned on the cruiser's flashing light but Sherman failed to pull over. Instead he drove a short distance to his home and parked the car in the garage. Police records indicate he offered no resistance when placed under arrest.
Sherman did not seek re-election to another term this year. His employer, NCR of Dayton, is relocating to Atlanta, Ga., and he now faces the prospect of finding another job. He has served nearly nine years on the board.
