Photo by Nancy Allen/The Daily Standard
Mercer County OSU Extension educator Jim Hoorman and economic development director Jared Ebbing talk to 16 state Extension educators who visited Grand Lake on Tuesday to learn about the lake's water quality issues and its connection to livestock. The group is participating in the USDA's Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program. They also visited a Darke County hog and beef cattle farm; the Inn at Versailles, which uses homegrown organic produce; and the Jeff Rasawehr farm near Celina, which uses cover crops and no till. Participants were from New Mexico, North Carolina, Idaho, New York, Florida, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Colorado.
