A group of St. Henry Elementary School third-graders drop a Spangler candy cane by homemade parachute to a few first-graders near the playground slide Thursday. The event was held in connection with Right to Read Week at the school. While focusing on Ohio's bicentennial year, the children read stories and learned about many native Ohio aviators as well as World War II Air Force pilot Col. Gail Halvorsen who dropped candy to children in Berlin during the war, hence the idea for their own candy drop. Incidentally, Spangler candy canes are manufactured in Bryan, Ohio.
