A low-gradient swamp area lies along U.S. 127 in northern Mercer County and is home to several species of plants and animals that are considered rare and endangered in the state of Ohio. The 130-plus acres, owned by Rockford resident George Wilson, has been designated a protected tree forest by the Ohio Division of Forestry.
