Minnesota residents Bob Reichel and Walt Groskurth finally got the window of good weather they needed to safely fly Reichel's seaplane off Grand Lake St. Marys on Saturday morning. The plane pulled away from the dock and out into the channel, in the photo below, before a long run across the water and into the air, at right, top. The pair touched down on the lake Tuesday evening to refuel at Kozy Marina along Ohio 703, and have been waiting for a clear weather forecast before heading home to Madison Lake, Minn., after purchasing the plane in Connecticut. Reichel on Saturday said he also will be stopping at Joliet, Ill., and La Crosse, Wisc., for fuel before reaching home. The seaplane can fly only two hours before refueling, the men said. Although it is legal for seaplanes to land on Grand Lake, very few state park lakes in Ohio allow aircraft to land due to boat traffic.
