Celina firefighters appear to be enveloped in smoke Tuesday as they battle a fire in a dust collector at the former Mersman plant, 500 W. Wayne St. A spark from a cutting torch apparently ignited the blaze, according to fire chief Doug Kuhn. The collector, which is being dismantled along with other outside apparatus, reportedly contained sawdust from bygone days when wood furniture was made at the plant. Two trucks and seven firefighters responded at 2:55 p.m., dousing the smouldering sawdust before flames spread and remaining on the scene approximately 21⁄2 hours to watch for rekindling. The building is owned by Rockford Construction Services.
