Worthington teacher Tom Strous stands beside one of the wagons in the Ohio Bicentennial Wagon Train but didn’t accept a ride. He walked the entire 285-mile course from Martins Ferry to New Paris as his ancestors did long ago. Strous often started 30 minutes before the lusty “Wagons Ho!” in order not to be left in the dust. The horse- or mule-driven wagons traveled from 3 to 5 miles per hour.
