Voters today will use a new ballot system when they hit the polls to vote on their favorite local school issue. Deibold Election Systems employees are testing a new ballot counting scanner in the Mercer County Board of Elections office this morning. Optical scan ballots are being used for the first time in Mercer County, as a precursor to touch-screen voting that will be unveiled in November or later. In the future, the optical scan ballots in use today will be used strictly for absentee and provisional voting. The polling locations across the county are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
