A 21-year-old Wapakoneta man was killed just after midnight today in a single-vehicle accident on state Route 66 north of St. Marys.

Matthew D. Meyer was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:35 a.m. accident just north of Vogel Road. Meyer was the sole occupant of a 1998 Infiniti station wagon.
According to the report from the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Meyer was northbound when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the right side of the road. The car veered back across the road and overturned, ejecting Meyer before coming to rest in a cornfield, the report said.
Auglaize County Coroner Dr. Thomas Freytag, who pronounced him dead at the scene, said the cause of the crash was not apparent and an autopsy was ordered.
"His injuries were not all that obvious," he added.   The autopsy, termed routine by Freytag, was to be performed today.
The crash remains under investigation, a spokeswoman for the patrol said. Meyer's death was the eighth traffic fatality in Auglaize County this year.
