| Jeff and Patty Johnson, Mendon, received the Outstanding Cooperator of the Year Award for 2003 during the 60th annual Mercer County Soil and Water Conservation District District banquet and meeting held in Coldwater. The couple raise crops and hogs and have implemented conservation practices such as filter strips, grass waterways, tree windbreaks and native grasses on their land to cut down on soil erosion and help provide wildlife habitat.
