Hands-on learning

A1 / Janie Southard

Fort Recovery Middle School students got a hands-on, up close look at various occupations during career day on Thursday. Brick mason Mike Kahlig, of Mike Kahlig and Son, Fort Recovery, shows students how it's done after they've each had a turn at building a wall. In a timed minute's work, they determined Kahlig could lay about 600 bricks an hour not counting the time to lay down the mortar. On a house with no arches and nothing fancy, a good mason could lay about 1,000 bricks a day, he said.
