Alfred Daniels

Alfred R. "Red" Daniels, 88, of Mendon, and formerly of Eaton, Ind., died at 3:35 p.m. March 14, 2005, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
   He was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Auglaize County, to Howard Ervin and Sylvia Mae Wycuff Daniels. On June 17, 1936, he married Rosetta Beery who died Oct. 9, 1992.
   Survivors are a son, Lewis F. (Elba) of Flippen, Ark.; two daughters, Alice M. (David) Bowling, Mendon, and Esther E. (Pat) Kirby, Eaton, Ind.; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, Harold and Vernon (Joann), all of Kossuth; three sisters, Hazel Young, Lima, Helen (Wayne) Kirkoff, Spencerville, and Betty (Ron) Gaskill, Kossuth; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.
   Deceased are two children, Howard W. and Joann S.; and three brothers, Virgil, Jesse and Lester.
   He was a retired car man and inspector at Nickel Plate-Norfolk Southern Railroad and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
   Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Randy Christian officiating. Burial is at Kossuth Cemetery.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
   Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.


Leon Van Eman

Leon Blaine "Bud" Van Eman, 88, of Spencerville, died at 11:05 p.m. March 13, 2005, at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living Center, Bridgeman, Mich., following a lengthy illness with Parkinson's Disease.
   He was born June 21, 1916, in Elgin, Van Wert, to Marshall and Carrie Cockrell Van Eman. On Jan. 2, 1937, he married Erma Pearl Tribolet who survives.
   Other survivors are two daughters, Sandra (Bill) William-son, Berrien Springs, Mich., and Sue (Allan) Williamson, Decatur, Ga.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
   Deceased is a sister, Lucile Salminen.
   A retired tool and die maker with Ohio Shield Company of Wapakoneta, he also was a farmer, woodworker and stained glass craftsman. He was a 1934 graduate of York High School and an active member of the Lima Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as an elder and deacon.
   Services are 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Revs. Don Byard, Bill Richardson and Allan Williamson officiating. Burial is at Spencerville Cemetery.
   Calling is after 1 p.m. Thursday until the time of services.
   Contributions can be made to the Lima church or South Haven Area Hospice of South Haven, Mich.
