It all came crumbling down at Rockford grain elevator

It took about 31Ú2 hours to demolish four, roughly 80-foot-tall cement, grain silos at the Mercer Landmark branch in Rockford, said branch manager Scott Boulis. The silos were brought down because they were no longer being used and were not functional any more. "We wanted to clean up the facility to create a neat appearance and keep the premises safe," he said. Boulis said there are no plans to replace the silos, which he said were likely built in the mid- 1950s to early 1960s. It will take about four to five days to clear the debris from the site.
