07-21-06 Grand Lake picks up road victory at Lake Erie

By Compiled by Ryan Hines

Despite the bus breaking down on the road trip along with a two-hour delay in the start of the game, Grand Lake entered enemy territory and came away with a 6-4 win over Lake Erie.

Grand Lake is now 15-15-1 on the season, the seventh time this year the Mariners have been at the .500 plateau, while Lake Erie falls to 15-15 on the summer.

The Mariners jumped on top 3-0 and never looked back as the Grand Lake pitching staff never gave up the lead during the contest.

Mike Wilson, from the University of Michigan, pitched the first 52Ú3 innings to pick up the victory on the hill.

Jeff Loveys then came out of the bullpen for the next 21Ú3 innings before Mariners closer Kyle Heyne came on with a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning for the save.  The Mariners are home tonight for a contest against the Cincinnati Steam (17-14) with a 7:15 p.m. start time. Grand Lake then hits the road on Saturday for a doubleheader against GLSCL-leading Columbus (20-9) at The Ohio State University. The Mariners will then return home to Jim Hoess Field for a single game on Sunday starting at 7:15 p.m.
