Harvest late in Mercer County

A farmer harvests soybeans last week in a field along Monroe Road south of Celina. The harvest is behind in Mercer County and other Ohio counties this year because so many farmers had to replant after their crops were flooded by spring rains. Rain this past weekend kept farmers out of their fields further delaying the harvest, said Mercer County OSU Extension Agent Todd Mangen. Typically farmers harvest soybeans first and then corn. So far about 10 percent of the county's soybeans have been harvested, compared to 75 percent in a normal year, he said. "Most of the soybeans are probably ready, they just can't get in the fields until they dry out," Mangen said.
