Elmer Albers

Elmer J. Albers, 90, 01689 state Route 119, Minster, died at 1:50 a.m. Jan. 24, 2006, at his residence.
   He was born July 3, 1915, in Minster, to Louis and Anna Heitkamp Albers. On Oct. 14, 1939, he married Hilda Kremer, who survives.
   Also surviving are four sons, Jack (Vickie) of Celina, and Louis (Treva), Jim (Pat) and Larry (Carolyn), all of Minster; a sister, Verlene (Jack) Lawler, St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Marge (Mike) Stricker, Minster; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a son, Ronald; a brother, Herbert; two sisters, Irene Mestemaker Borchers and Luetta Goubeaux; and a great-grandchild.
   He was a retired farmer and former Jackson Township Trustee. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, its Orphan Society and a former parish councilman. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391 and the Cataract Fire Company, both of Minster.
   Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-9:30 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Alice Grothause

Former Celina resident, Ora Alice Grothause, 93, of 1255 Logan Blvd., S. Naples, Fla., died at 12:23 a.m. Jan. 21, 2006, at the Naples Community Hospital, Fla.
   She was born Jan. 26, 1912, in Middle Point, to Sebastian Allie and Leah DeNeil Gamble Ley. On Sept. 7, 1934, she married Raymond B. Grothause, who died Oct. 17, 1976.
   Survivors are a son, Barry (Roberta) of Naples; sister, Joyce Owens, Convoy; brother-in-law, Art (Mary) of Delphos; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are four brothers, Rexford, Hubert, Frank and Alfred Ley; and two sisters, Margaret Jackson and Mary Louise Swallow.
   She and her husband owned Carl Wrights Service Station, Celina. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, where she was a past president of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia; Ladies of St. John; and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Auxiliary. She was a life member and organizer of the A.D.O. Sorority and Sigma and Omega Chapters.
   Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial is a later date at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
   Calling is after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.


John Reier

John H. "Jack" Reier, 75, 812 Pro Drive, Celina, died at 11:10 a.m. Jan. 23, 2006, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
   He was born June 12, 1930, in Toledo, to Leroy Reier and Delta Price. His wife Carol Love, survives in Celina.
   Also surviving are three sons, Carl (Susan) Swartz, Celina, Jack Swartz, Fresno, Calif., and Michael (Danine) Swartz, Phoenix, Ariz.; six daughters, Debbie (Willy) Emerson, Ill., Jackie (Mike) Place, Fresno, Calif., Terry (Larry) Walker, Lima, Patty (Tony) Poire, Victorville, Calif., Karen (Craig) Kempton, Minneapolis, and Jeannie Swartz, Celina; four brothers, 11 sisters, 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
   He was a retired truck driver for Beatrice & Schwarmens Trucking Co., Cincinnati. He was active in 4-H in California and owned and operated the Lucky Horseshoe Bird Ranch, Fresno, where he raised quail.
   Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. John Berstein officiating. Burial is a later date in St. Thomas Cemetery, Glynwood.
   Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
   Contributions can be made to the American Lung Association, Lima.
