* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions.

Valier Amstutz
Valier G. Amstutz, 75, of rural Berne, Ind., died at 3:50 p.m. Sept. 15, 2006, at Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Ind.
He was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Adams County, to Oswin and Esther Kneuss Amstutz. His first wife, Ethel Hass, died in 1970. In Dec. 1970, he married Ermal Hone McCourt, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Randall (Kenda) and Brice (Kelly), all of Berne; a daughter, Janell (Joe A.) Schwartz, Berne; a stepdaughter, Betsy Gray, Berne; a brother, Keith, New Haven, Ind.; two sisters, Marlene Lines, New Haven, and Gyneth (Amos) Coblentz, Berne; and 14 grandchildren.
He was founder and co-owner of Amstutz Construction, a farmer and a Wabash Township trustee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during the Korean War, and a member of First Missionary Church, Berne, where he served as a Sunday school teacher.
Services were today at the church, the Revs. Kris McPherson and Tom Murphy officiated. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post 468 and 346, both of Berne, was at MRE Cemetery.
Contributions can be made to Gideons International or the church missions.
Arrangements were handled by Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne.
