A heavily damaged 2003 Hyundai awaits towing from an accident scene along Burkettsville-St. Henry Road, south of Philothea Road. Criminal charges are pending against Matthew J. Schwieterman, 32, 127 W. Logan St., Celina, for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to file a police report. Schwie-terman lost control of his northbound car at 11:32 a.m. Jan. 25 and overcorrected twice, according to Mercer County Sheriff's Office reports. The vehicle came to rest after crashing into a utility pole. First responders initially feared the driver might be trapped beneath the car but soon learned he went home a report said. Authorities found blood in the car but Schwieterman refused treatment.
