Orville Niekamp
Orville A. Niekamp, 66, 155 W. Main St., Osgood, died at 5:10 a.m. March 19, 2007, at his residence.
He was born May 1, 1940, in Sharpsburg, to Aloys and Odelia Bruggeman Niekamp. On Oct. 2, 1965, he married Alice Bergman, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Doug (Sue), North Star; four daughters, Cindy (Steve) Muhlenkamp, St. Anthony, Patty (Mike) Groff, North Star, Julie (Scott) McEldowney, Versailles, and Christy (Randy) Gehret, Willowdell; a sister, Mary Ann Nieberding, Versailles; a sister-in-law, Bernie, Rossburg; a stepsister, Mary (Bart) Ahlers, Coldwater; and 15 grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Victor; a brother-in-law, Bernard Nieberding; a stepbrother, Ed Nieberding; and two stepsisters, Bertha Homan and Edna Heitkamp.
He formerly owned and operated George's General Store, North Star, and most recently was employed in the meat department at Wagners IGA, Minster. He was a retired member of the North Star Fire Department and was an Army National Guard Veteran. He was a member of St. Louis Church, its Mens Holy Name of the Church and past commander of the American Legion Post 174, all of North Star. He was a former North Star little league coach, past parade chairman of the North Star Community Picnic and a member of the Eldora Big "E" and booster club.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery were military rites will be conducted by American Legion, North Star.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater, and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
