Serious accident
Photo by Mark Pummell/The Daily Standard

A 76-year-old Celina man remains in critical condition this morning at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima following a Saturday night accident along Hierholzer Street near Fairlawn Street. Lester L. Johnson was traveling eastbound at 6:22 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, his 1997 Cadillac drove off the left side of the street, struck a bush and continued through two yards. The car came to a stop on its top after striking a tree. Johnson was freed from the wreckage and taken by ambulance to Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater. He was transferred by emergency helicopter to the Lima hospital, where he remains under treatment in the intensive care unit. Police suspect a medical condition may have led to the crash; the investigation is continuing.
