Catherine Grundish
Catherine Marcella Heil Grundish, 93, died at 6:45 p.m. May 2, 2012, at Golden Living Center-Valley, St. Marys.
She was born Nov. 8, 1918, in New Bremen, to Clarence and Catherine Frenzer Heil. On Feb. 22, 1941, she married Clair C. Grundish, who died Feb. 3, 1974.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Grundish, St. Marys; two sons, Art Grundish, Santa Rosa, Calif., and Philip Grundish, Logan; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are an infant daughter, Ruth Grundish; a brother, Arthur Heil; and a stepmother, Bernadette Heil.
She was a graduate of New Bremen High School, and earned her master's degree from Wright State University in Dayton. She retired in 1985 from St. Marys City Schools, having taught first through third grade at Noble Elementary School for 18 years. In 1976, she was named recipient of the Jennings Scholarship Award for Outstanding Teachers. She also worked at Streines in New Bremen and General Telephone Company.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church, St. Marys and its Hannah Circle, serving as a deacon, elder and consistory member. Other memberships include the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Auglaize County Retired Teachers Association, Progress Club, Beta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Miami-Erie Canal Corridor Association, Koop Community Club and Farm Bureau.
Services are 1 p.m. June 26   at the church, the Rev. Ed Bray officiating. A private burial service will be held at German Protestant Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 12-1 p.m. June 26 at the church.
Miller Funeral Homes, St. Marys, has charge of arrangements.
