Maria Stein man dies in single-car weekend crash

By Jared Mauch
MARIA STEIN - A local man died in a single-car accident early Saturday morning.
Samuel Wuebker, 20, 1189 Kremer Road, Maria Stein, was driving a 1979 Jeep southbound on Kremer Road south of Huwer Road in Marion Township at 3:58 a.m. Saturday, according to Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey. Wuebker reportedly traveled off the west side of the road, overcorrected, went left of center and then off the west side of the road again, striking a power pole.
Wuebker died at the scene, according to reports.
According to the sheriff's report, Wuebker was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was reportedly the vehicle's only occupant.
The incident remains under investigation. Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash, according to the report, but drug and alcohol test results are not known at this time. The Jeep sustained disabling damage, according to the report.
The accident marks the fourth traffic fatality in Mercer County this year, according to Grey.
Mercer County Sheriff's deputies were assisted on scene by the Osgood Fire Department and medical squad.
Wuebker was a truck driver for Brandt Swine Farms, Versailles, and a member of St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein.
He was a 2013 Marion Local High School graduate and is survived by a daughter, Annabella Rose Wuebker, and girlfriend Lacie Browning of Troy.
