James Thobe
James M. (Thorpe) Thobe, age 68, of Maria Stein, died Saturday, March 31, 2018 at his home.
He was born January 12, 1950 in Celina, to the late Virgil & Mary (Wenning) Thobe. On November 17, 1978, he married Phyllis May and she survives in Maria Stein.
He is survived by his children, Chad & Mindy Thobe of Hillard, Jamie Thobe of Maria Stein, Ryan & Jamee Thobe of Maria Stein and Travis Thobe of St. Henry and Lindsay Moorman; five grandchildren; siblings: Richard & Diane Thobe of Chickasaw, Jean Basile of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joan Bollenbacher of Maria Stein and Dave Vagedes, Lynn & Dale Homan of Maria Stein, Kris & Roger Demange of St. Henry, Kathy & Tom Huelsman of Chickasaw, Nancee & Ted Homan of Chickasaw, Jack Thobe of Chickasaw & Sue Hess, Kevin & Ruth Thobe of St. Henry and Beth & Gary Fortkamp of Maria Stein; in-laws: Mike & Sue May, Ron & Pat May and Bob May all of Ft. Recovery.
He is preceded in death by a granddaughter Paige and a sister Ann.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cassella. He was owner/operator of Thobe Trucking for many years and worked for Marion Township after that. Thorpe loved spending time on Grand Lake with family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein. Burial will follow in Nativity Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 4, and from 9 to 9:45 AM on Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
