Richard Long
Richard J. Long, 77, St. Marys, OH died Thursday October 4, 2018 at his residence.
He was born July 4, 1941 in Greensburg, PA to Wilfred and Elizabeth (Rizzardi) Long.
He was first married to Kendra Martin, who preceded him in death. He was then married to Cheryl An Hott, who also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: daughter Kellee Long of St. Marys, OH; son Kevin (Karen) Long of Bellbrook, OH; 4 grandchildren: Kaisey Ballenger, Jaikob Long, Ethan Long and Emilia Long; sister Norma (Thomas) Mertz of Minster, OH; sister Barbara (Gregory) Dardio of Wapakoneta, OH; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents Wilfred and Elizabeth Long; first Wife Kendra Long; second wife Cheryl Ann Long; brother Anthony Long; infant brother Paul Long.
He was a graduate of Mendon-Union High School. He served in the US Army Reserves for six years. He retired from the Midmark Corp. in Versailles, OH. Following his retirement, he then worked at the Sparkle Car Wash in St. Marys, until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church, VFW Post #9289 and Eagles Lodge Aerie #767, all in St. Marys. Richard served several terms on the St. Marys City Council, representing the 4th Ward.
An avid sports fan, he supported the St. Marys Roughriders, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers. He also enjoyed fishing at Grand Lake St. Marys and going to his sister's house to play cards.
Rites are scheduled to begin 10:30 a.m. Friday October 12, 2018 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys, with the Rev. Bev Hurlburt, officiating.
Visitation 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private family burial will take place at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen, OH.
