Patricia Royce
Patricia Ann Royse, age 79, of Greenfield, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018.
Patricia was the daughter of Albert and Bessie Royse and one of five siblings.
A lifelong journalist, Patricia broke down gender barriers as a pioneering female reporter covering hard news in the era when most newswomen were unfairly relegated to writing fashion or society stories. She met fellow reporter, David Vienna, while covering the 1966 Hough riots for the Cleveland Press. They later married and had two children.
The marriage didn't last, but her love of hearing and sharing stories thrived. She went on to work at newspapers such as The Daily Standard in Celina, OH, and The Rockville Gazette in Rockville, MD. When not covering local news and events, Patricia loved to visit with her family and voraciously read mystery novels.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Charlotte.
Patricia is survived by her daughter Elizabeth, her son David, her grandsons Wyatt and Boone, and her three siblings Sue Holcomb, Jerry and Mike Royse.
A memorial service will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, November 10, at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield. Her cremains will be buried with her parents in the Greenfield Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the International Center for Journalism at icfj.org or simply share a story with someone.
