NEW BREMEN - Summer vacation will be a week shorter for New Bremen students as they enter their break in May.
The schedule was altered in preparation for construction of the new elementary building set to open in the fall of 2020, superintendent Jason Schrader said. He presented the school calendar for 2019-2020, which set the first day of classes on Aug. 14 and the final day on May 11. [More]

ROCKFORD - A fire engulfing an Amish home west of Rockford on Wednesday evening turned out to be a controlled burn.
Rockford firefighters responded to a call reporting the blaze at about 5:10 p.m. Fire chief Rob Belna said he believed the Amish homeowner wanted to do away with the house at 1759 Rockford West Road, "so he just set it on fire."
An Amish person at the scene said the house was more than 100 years old and was in bad shape on the inside. [More]
