Mobile home hit by gunfire

Occupant unhurt; suspect arrested

By Sydney Albert
CELINA - A St. Marys man was arrested early Thursday morning after five shots were fired into a mobile home in Celina the day before, according to a news release.
Joseph D. Meinerding, 22, has been arrested and booked into the Mercer County jail on a charge of felonious assault.
At about 3:08 a.m. Wednesday, a resident at 537 Touvelle St. called to report a number of shots had been fired in the mobile home court, according to a Celina Police Department news release. Upon arrival, Celina police officers reportedly found the residential trailer at Lot 69 had been shot five times. With no answer at the door, officers made entry and found 41-year-old Walter Mabry III.
Mabry denied knowing what had happened and told officers he was asleep at the time, according to the release. He offered no information on who the suspect might be. After a search of the area for a suspect or evidence, officers reportedly cleared the scene and contacted detectives to assist with the investigation.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, Celina police were notified by St. Marys police officers of a traffic stop. Sgt. Tom Kennedy reportedly had made observations during the stop and, coupled with details from the Celina Police Department, developed probable cause for a search warrant issued by Auglaize County Municipal Court Judge R. Andrew Augsburger.
Celina and St. Marys police executed the warrant on a residence at 8021/2 Augusta St. in St. Marys. A handgun that is suspected to have been used in the shooting the prior day was recovered with ammunition, according to the release.
Meinerding is being held on a $100,000 bond, subject to 10 percent cash option, pending the review and filing of formal charges by Mercer County Prosecutor Matthew Fox.
