Roman Meyer
Roman L. Meyer, age 96, of Coldwater, Ohio, died Wednesday, September 4, 2019, after a brief stay at Celina Manor nursing home.
Roman, the eldest son of Frank and Mary (Schmitmeyer) Meyer, was born November 21, 1922, in Minster, Ohio. He married Mary Ann Borchers on May 8, 1948, who preceded him in death on January 24, 2015.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Peg Meyer (Bill's wife) of Visalia, CA, Jacque Meyer of Coldwater, Jeffrey and Anita Meyer of Weeki Wachee, FL, and Roman and Laura Meyer of Coldwater; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Chuck Aplin of Melbourne, FL, and Sandra and Aaron Tian of Raleigh, NC; five grandsons and three great-grandsons. Roman is also survived by his brother Urban Meyer of Minster, sisters Rita Wuebker of Minster, Dolores Vollmer and Jeannie Kemper of New Bremen, and sister-in-law Florence Meyer of Botkins.
In addition to his wife, Mary Ann, he was preceded in death by his eldest son, William (Bill) Meyer, and granddaughter, Denise Meyer. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert of Botkins, sisters and brothers-in-law Vera and Lawrence Schmiesing of Minster, Marie and Ralph Huelsman of St. Henry, Esther and Ralph Frey of Yorkshire, Robert Vollmer of Lusk, WY, Stanley Wuebker, Larry Kemper, and sister-in-law Eileen Meyer, all of Minster.
Roman honorably served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He graduated from Ohio State University (OSU) in 1947 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and practiced in the Coldwater area for nearly forty years. He worked hard all his life, loved and respected his family, and enjoyed his many friends. He had an easy-going personality and was known for his quick wit and his kind and compassionate spirit. He was adventurous whether it included flying his airplane to attend OSU football games, going white water rafting, or hot air ballooning. Later in life, he fished, read, played cards, and spent winters in FL with his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 2 PM - 8 PM, and Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 9 AM - 10 AM at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 2019, at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in the family plot.
