Rosemary Schmit
Rosemary G. Schmit, age 94, formerly of Coldwater, died on Monday, May 25, 2020 at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility in Battle Creek, Michigan.
She was born July 18, 1925 in Coldwater to the late Aloysius & Carrie (Anthony) Link. She married Ralph Schmit on May 17,1951 who preceded her in death.
She is survived by children, Tom Schmit & Kaye of Leland, NC, Mary Lou & Rob Guizzo of Dayton, Rosemarie & Greg Rosebush of Marshall, MI, Dan & Brooks Schmit of Gastonia, NC and Carolyn & John Farmer of Cincinnati; 9 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; in-laws, Don Riley of Florida, Lillian Perkins and Frances Ann Schmit both of Coldwater, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by siblings and in-laws, Fr. Mark Link, Tony & Thelma Link, Sr. Carolyn Link, Gertrude Riley, Fr. Paul Link, Lavern & Charline Schmit, Donald & Agnes Schmit, Richard Schmit, Mary Jean Schmit and Richard Perkins.
Rosemary graduated from Coldwater HS in 1943 and worked as a secretary for the Corp of Army Engineers at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton during World War II. After the war she studied at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton and became a registered nurse. She worked at our Lady of Mercy Hospital (now Mercer Health) when it first opened in 1950. She once had to deliver a baby in a car in the hospital parking lot during a snowstorm.
She retired as the Director of Nursing at Briarwood Manor in Coldwater. Before moving to Michigan to be near her daughter she was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater where she taught religion & sang in the choir.
Due to Covid-19 concerns graveside services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
