By Leslie Gartrell
CELINA - An eighth death from COVID-19 was reported in Auglaize County on Tuesday, and three new cases raised the county's confirmed number of cases to 305.
The number of Mercer County cases increased marginally, as five new cases raised the county's total to 689.
The eighth Auglaize County death involved a man between the ages of 70 and 90. Department officials would not provide additional information, such as whether the man had been a resident or patient at a long-term care facility.
"At this time, as in the past, the Auglaize County Health Department will not disclose identifiable information regarding a COVID-19 case that has died," health commissioner Oliver Fisher said in an email.
Fisher said the department will not include an exact age or more accurate age range when reporting deaths to prevent the deceased from being identified in obituaries. The health department had reported deaths with exact ages until mid-July.
