Officer laid to rest

Jim Dean of the Licking County Sheriff's Office plays the bagpipes as he leads the procession from the church after the funeral of Mark Heinl.

  Heinl, 60, Coldwater, died Nov. 28. He had served in law enforcement with the Mercer and Darke County sheriff's offices and the Minster, Coldwater and St. Henry police departments, according to his obituary.

  He also volunteered with the Coldwater Fire Department and EMS and Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers. He received the Buckeye State Sheriffs' Association Medal of Honor and the Celina-Mercer County Chamber Outstanding Achievement award in 1998 for saving a person's life.
