CELINA - Mercer and Auglaize counties followed a national trend in 2020 as COVID-19 contributed to excess deaths of local residents and Americans at large.
According to a Daily Standard analysis of obituaries submitted to the newspaper from 2017-2021, more than 200 additional obituaries were submitted in 2020 than in the three years prior. [More]

ST. HENRY - In a game where strikeouts were the norm, a walk decided the Fort Recovery-St. Henry baseball battle.
Bryce Brookhart drew a walk after running the count full with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to help St. Henry snap a five-game losing streak and pick up its first Midwest Athletic Conference win of the season in a 2-1 decision over the Indians at the Wally Post Athletic Complex. [More]

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors announced Thursday that the high school football playoffs will expand beginning this fall.
The playoffs, which were originally planned to expand from eight to 12 teams per region, will now expand to 16 teams per region starting in the 2021 season, per a press release from the OHSAA on Thursday. [More]

After the Fort Recovery softball team rallied to tie the game in the fifth, St. Henry scored three runs in the top of the sixth and staved off another Indians comeback to earn a wild 9-8 win over its Midwest Athletic Conference rival in Fort Recovery on Thursday.
