Verna Behm
Mrs. Verna Glee Behm, age 91, of Celina passed away peacefully at Ever Heart Hospice Center in Greenville, Ohio, on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 8:18 am. She was born on April 30, 1930, in Mercer County, a daughter of the late Chauncy LeRoy and Bertha Caroline (Leininger) Pifer. She was married 64 years to Albert Eugene Behm, who passed away in 2014.
Verna is survived by her three daughters, Donna (Carl) Pond of Rockford, Debra (James) Gibson of Zanesville, and Dana (Gary) Linn of Celina. She was a proud grandmother of her seven grandchildren: Doug (Lori) Pond, Duke (Mindy) Pond, Holly (Eric) Strunk, Sarah (Sidney) Ford, Katie (Brian) Garrett, Paul (Jessica Barnesbee) Linn, Tom Linn, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Behm and siblings, Beatrice, Marjorie, Ruby, Glenda, Twyla, Donna, and Gerald.
Verna graduated from Willshire High School. She retired from the Mercer County Clerk of Courts after twenty-five years, a career she was very fond of. Verna was a member of the Celina Church of God for fifty years and was very active in the Women's Group at the Church.
Verna attended Mt. Tabor Church of God in Celina. She loved traditional gospel hymns, her farm life in Chattanooga, fishing at Rice Lake, and watching "her" Ohio State Buckeyes. She also enjoyed hosting card parties and eating breakfast at Pullman Bay restaurant, or any restaurant that served pie. She was known as a "social butterfly" and enjoyed being around people.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Cisco Funeral Homes in Celina. Funeral service will follow the visiting hour at the funeral home at 11:00 am Rev. Richard VanHorn officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County in Verna's name.
