Edith Wissman
Edith J. Wissman, age 94 Of New Bremen, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 1:48 A.M. at the Joint Twp. Dist. Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
Born at home near McCartysville on May 2, 1928 the only child of Lester H. and Lorraine B.W. (Laut) Blanke, she was proceeded in death by her parents, a granddaughter Jennifer Poeppelman, and also her husband John E. Wissman (whom she married on August 6, 1950) and he died on October 8, 2007. She is survived by her daughters Chris (Bill) Poeppelman and Cindy (Jerry) Newman all of New Bremen, a grandson Jeff (Nikki) Poeppelman of New Bremen, a granddaughter Janelle (Larry) Ballinger of Taylorsville, KY, and her great-grandchildren: Alexa, Aaron, and Brady Poeppelman, and Crew, Brycen, and Brooklyn Ballinger. 
Edith graduated from New Bremen High School in 1946, and went on to further her education at Miami of Ohio University graduating in 1950 with degrees in Physical Education and Music Education. She began her 30 year teaching career in Waynesfield, Moulton, and New Knoxville, and retired after teaching in New Bremen for many years.
Together she and John enjoyed spending their time fishing and camping with their friends and grandchildren, they loved to go dancing, and they attended countless sporting events in New Bremen and Miami.
She was a true follower of New Bremen athletics, and she was extremely proud to be at the state tournament when New Bremen won their first state championship in volleyball. She loved to play the piano and was part of the "Dynamic Duo" with Ethel Mesloh. She also enjoyed playing cards and was part of several card clubs for many years.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen where over the years, she had active in the Busy 12, Satellite groups, the Called to Care ministry, the choir director, and a member of the bell choir.
Among the many awards she acquired were: being chosen for Grand Marshal of the Bremenfest Parade in 1984, chosen Auglaize County Citizen of the Year, chosen for the State of Ohio Honor Senior Citizens, and she was also the first lady to have a holy in one at the Arrowhead Golf Course. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers of Auglaize County, New Bremen Athletic and Music Boosters, long-time supporter of Lock One Community Arts, and a former board member of the Joint Twp. Dist. Memorial Hospital where she also volunteered for many years.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen with Rev. Becky Erb Strang and Pastor Bryan Trego officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and again on Saturday morning, at the church, one hour prior to the service.
