June Thurston
June E. Thurston, 80, of Celina, Ohio, passed away on February 1, 2023 at Mercer Health in Coldwater.
She was born May 29, 1942 in Celina to the late Lewis B. and Ruth (Felver) Hoenie. On April 5, 1969 she married Andrew G. Thurston and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2008.
Survivors include her children, Julie (Jeremy) Smith, New Knoxville, Duane (Xuan) Thurston, California and Joseph (Arlene) Thurston, Nevada; a sister, Dorothy (Merlin) Grone-Trentmen, Delphos; a brother, Robert (Virginia) Hoenie, Texas; and 7 grandchildren, Anne Thurston, Amanda Thurston, AJ Thurston, Gabriel Thurston, Maximus Thurston, Brandon Smith and Kaitlin Smith.
June was also preceded in death by a sister, Clara Rose Hoenie.
She was 1960 graduate of Celina High School and went on to study at a trade school where she specialized in accounting. She worked at Reynolds and Reynolds in Celina and owned her own tax accounting service for 30 years. She moved to New Knoxville in 2019 to be closer to her daughter and attended New Knoxville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the Sunshine Singers. June enjoyed sewing, gardening, singing, but she especially loved traveling out west to visit family as well as her brother in Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina with Rev. Dennis Gaertner officiating; where the family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at North Grove Cemetery in Celina.
