Doris Muhlenkamp
Doris A. (Gehret) Muhlenkamp, 61, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
She was born on December 4, 1961, in Coldwater, Ohio to the Paul H. Gehret of North Star and the late Bernice Ann (Fullenkamp) Gehret.
In addition to her father, Doris is survived by her husband of 32 years, Thomas "Tom" Muhlenkamp, whom she married on November 25, 1989; her children, Amanda (Austin) James of Ansonia, Ohio, Beth (Aaron) Kahlig of Fort Recovery, Sam (Sarah Williams) Muhlenkamp of Celina, and Ethan Muhlenkamp of Fort Recovery; her grandchildren, Beckett, Adler, and Evelyn, and one on the way; her siblings, Joan Gehret of North Star, Andy (Tia) Gehret of North Star, Dan (Amy) Gehret of North Star, Rick Gehret of North Star, and Gary (Jill) Gehret of Yorkshire; her sister-in-law, DeAnna Gehret of Springfield; her mother-in-law, Dorothy (Westgerdes) Muhlenkamp of Fort Recovery; her in-laws, Linda (Carl) Guggenbiller of Celina, Shirley (Steve) Grevenkamp of St. Henry, Joyce (Michael) Lamm of Celina, Patricia Besecker of Dillon, MT, Sue Huelsman of New Bremen, Jan (Steve) Adams of Coldwater, Ed (Tracy) Muhlenkamp of Greenville, Ralph (Kathy) Muhlenkamp of New Weston, Luke (Tammy) Muhlenkamp of New Weston, Laura (Jeff) O'Dell of Fort Recovery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother, Doris was preceded in death by her brother, Ivan Gehert; her father-in-law, Donald Muhlenkamp; her in-law, Dan Besecker.
Doris was a 1980 graduate of Versailles High School. She obtained her LPN from the Dayton School of Nursing, followed by her RN from Community School of Nursing, Springfield in 1989. She was employed by Mercer Health Hospital for nearly 32 years working 30 years in the OB Department. Prior to Mercer Health, Doris worked for Wayne Hospital in Greenville. After marrying Tom, Doris moved to the Fort Recovery community and began to make it her home. Doris was a beautiful wife, mother and grandmother. Her children will remember her for being witty, and her love of gardening and bird watching. She loved her grandchildren dearly, and always took the opportunity to play, bake, and go on Ranger rides with them.
She valued her faith, family and service to others. Caring for her family and her patients was a passion of hers. She pitched in wherever she saw a need for help. Doris was a devoted farmer's wife and helped keep her family and the farm moving. Doris attended St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sharpsburg. She was a member of the parish Ladies Sodality and Daughters of Isabella. Doris was a supporter of the Fort Recovery Band Booster and was a 4-H advisor for the Fort Pioneers. She routinely supported the community blood drive and volunteered for the Fort Recovery Historical Society. Doris was an avid volunteer and supporter of Darke County Right to Life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 9, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, with Father Alexander Witt celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Guests may visit with Doris' family on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Monday from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A Daughters of Isabella prayer service will take place at 6:45 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
