WAPAKONETA - A Celina teen was killed and his passenger seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 33 and Bay Road in Moulton Township early Thursday morning.
Ethan Brunswick, 18, was reportedly driving a 2010 Honda Accord eastbound on U.S. 33. Shane Thomason, 51, Lima was driving a 2012 Kenworth tanker truck northbound on Bay Road, according to a news release from the Wapakoneta Post of the State Highway Patrol.
Thomason was turning left to travel west onto U.S. 33 when Brunswick's Honda struck the rear of the tanker truck at about 2:56 a.m., per the release.
Brunswick and his passenger, Gage Stein, 19, Celina, were both ejected from the Honda.
Brunswick reportedly succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. Stein was transported from the scene via Careflight Air & Mobile Services to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.
Stein was in stable but serious condition as of 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a state highway patrol spokesperson told the newspaper.
Thomason was not injured in the accident.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the accident, the spokesperson told the newspaper. The crash remains under investigation.
State highway patrol was assisted at the scene by the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office, Wapakoneta Fire Department, St. Marys Fire Department, Buckland Volunteer Fire Department, Auglaize County Coroner's Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Miller Auto Inc. and Miller Funeral Home.
Brunswick was described in his obituary as a "vibrant soul" who "touched the hearts of all who knew him." He was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Bengals.
