St. Marys and Fort Recovery fell short of their goal of a Division II girls state bowling championship after the teams competed at the state tournament at HP Lanes in Columbus on Friday.

The Roughriders, which reached the semifinals of the championship round last season, had a strong qualifying round to earn a spot in the eight-team championship round. St. Marys bowled a 3,598 for the third-best qualifying score to move into the quarterfinals against Fairport Harding.

Fairport won the opening game of the best-of-five baker game series 181-170. St. Marys came back to tie the match in game two with a 201-155 contest, but Fairport took the next two games 172-162 and 174-162 to win the match 3-1 and end St. Marys' season.
