Nelson, Mercer County Fairground's hulking homage to the legendary Bigfoot, has hit the big time with a shoutout in Ohio Magazine. The popular Ohio travel, history and lifestyle publication named Celina's unique sculpture as one of its "5 Incredible Roadside Art Finds in Ohio" in its March/April issue. The pub credited the Bear Hollow Wood Carvers team for creating the piece and noted that travelers who gathered at the fairgrounds for last April's total solar eclipse "also got to see the genesis of the county's newest photo-op spot." Fair officials said after construction of the oversized wooden Sasquatch in the spring of 2024 that they hope Nelson enhances Mercer County's reputation as a hub of growth and excitement. "Our hope is that it brings enjoyment to our community," fair manager Cara Muhlenkamp had said. "We also hope that it is a fun thing for folks to travel to see." If Nelson gets more media attention like this, the sightseers are sure to follow.
