New Knoxville Fire Chief Jerry Merges stands proudly beside the village's brand-new custom Sutphen Heavy Duty Pumper Fire Engine during Sunday's Fire Department open house, which drew hundreds of enthusiastic residents. Ordered in 2022 and completed after three years, the 35-foot-long, 9-foot-tall engine is the village's first new fire truck in three decades. It features a four-door, six-person extended cab with a 10-inch raised roof and a top-mounted pump offering 360-degree access. The department calls it the best truck they've ever worked with.
