The Luginbill family celebrated the grand opening of the Tastee Twirl in Rockford June 6.

A beloved Rockford-area ice cream shop is back with new ownership, according to a news release from the village chamber of commerce.

The new owners of Tastee Twirl Rockford, brothers Lucas, Drew and Kyle Luginbill, held a grand opening on June 6. Currently the shop is only scooping ice cream and does not have food available just yet, per a company Facebook post.

"The Tastee Twirl has been a great part of Rockford for many years now," Mayor Ron Searight said in a statement. "The exact number of years have yet to be determined, but it's at least 70 years old. It's a Rockford tradition for good ice cream with your family or friends. This type of business has no age limit, all ages can enjoy it. With their motto 'Your hometown spot in Rockford, Ohio, for delicious soft serve and hand-dipped ice cream. Family-friendly, locally owned, and perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.' Says it all."

In the statement, the village added it "welcomes the Luginbill family as the new owners and for their interest in the development of Rockford."

The business was purchased in May from previous owner Steven Sheets, who had owned it since 2013.

The Luginbill brothers also own Luginbill Construction in Celina, which was founded in 2016.
