Grand Lake Fishing Report

Learning new things every day

By Matt Tuttle
Good day everyone. I hope all of you are staying cool during this summer heat.
I sure see a lot of folks out on the water enjoying the summer sunny days. We are having some relief in small amounts of time. I love this time of year though. I love getting up early and watching sunrise casting a beautiful sight across the lake.
The calmness of the morning, beautiful colors and seeing wildlife coming to life and most of the time being the only boat on the lake. The lake can bring so many ways of finding peace and healing. We are so lucky to have this gem in our backyard. If you are a cat fisherman, now is the time to be on Grand Lake. I'm catching so many catfish while crappie fishing in the channels.
I heard something the other day for the first time ever in fishing. A guide on Reelfoot Lake (in Tennessee) Day said, "The second wave of spawning bluegill will come with this next full moon."
I wasn't catching bluegill on beds, then this past weekend I found some bluegills shallow and spawning. I have been fishing for over 30 plus years and this was a first for me. We are never too old to learn.
My Dad reminded me of that a lot. So get some wax worms, grab some ice jigs or ants and go have some fun!! All these items can be found at Eastside Bait and Tackle located in a new location at 360 Northway Drive in St. Marys.
