Gladys Caldwell
Gladys Caldwell, 85, of Saint Marys, died 5:15 P.M. Monday, July 28, 2025, at Vancrest of Saint Marys Nursing Home.
She was born July 11, 1940, in Pineville, Kentucky, the daughter of Henry and Dora (Thompson) Hensley. She married Willard Caldwell on August 18, 1955, in Portland, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on March 6, 2021.
She is survived by her son, Darrell Caldwell; by her grandchildren: Travis (Audrey) Nuttle of Rockford, Ohio; Ashley (Joel) Temple of Rockford; by her great-grandchildren: Dylan Nuttle; Porter Temple; Pierce Temple; Paine Temple. She is survived by her sister, Janice Short, who made her home with Gladys after Willard died.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and by her siblings: Clarence Hensley; Bratcher Hensley; Pittman Hensley; Lonnie Hensley; Levi Hensley; Henry Hensley, Jr.; George Hensley; Mary Elizabeth Hensley; Sophia Longworth; Flora Marsee; Louvernia Wilson; Edith Green; Birdie Marsee; Liddie Hensley; Glessie Cowan.
Gladys attended McKinney High School in Pineville, KY. She was a district sales manager for Avon Products from 1976-2005; she had been a department manager at the former W.T. Grant Store and a sales clerk at G.C. Murphy in Saint Marys.
She and Willard were members of the former Hillsdale Baptist Church in Saint Marys, where for 26 years Gladys served as the church clerk.
In 1998, she and Willard moved to Sevierville, Tennessee, where they enjoyed being near family, picnicking in the Smoky Mountains, and shopping and eating in the nearby restaurants. They both liked meeting new people, as she and Willard worked at the Louise Mandrell Theatre as ushers. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and sewing. While living in Sevierville, they attended Seymour Baptist Church.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, Ohio, Pastor Dave Wilson, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends and family may call from 3-7 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to Grand Lake Hospice.
