A handful of youngsters competed in the inaugural speed puzzle contest put on by the Kiwanis Club of Celina on Monday afternoon at the Mercer County Fair. Kiwanis member Lori Vian said the contest is one of two the club is holding at the fair this year, the other being its annual Mr. Potato Head Contest. In that competition, kids dress up a real potato and compete for best dressed. Both games are prime examples of the Kiwanis mission statement of "improving the world one child and one community at a time," member Kelly Westgerdes said. Monday's puzzlers were Carlena Heindl, 7, Celina; Cora Schott, 6, Celina; Lana Schott, 10, Celina; and Declan Schott, 8, Celina. The puzzle contest was held in the Cooper Farms Entertainment Tent. The first place winners, or whoever finishes their 100-piece puzzle first, was set to take home $15 each, second place $10 and third place $5.
