Auglaize election board finalizes November ballot

WAPAKONETA - Auglaize County Board of Elections members on Wednesday certified petitions of nonpartisan candidates, setting up a number of contested school board races for the Nov. 4 general election.

Also on the ballot, the Auglaize County Commissioners are seeking a 10-year renewal of a sales and use tax to support the county's general fund.

Here's a rundown of races affecting the western part of the county:

School boards

Four candidates are running for three open seats on St. Marys City Schools Board of Education.

The terms of three of the five current board members - Karl Dammeyer, Christopher Falk and Ronald Wilker - expire at the end of the year. Dammeyer and Wilker both filed for reelection, but Falk did not.

Dammeyer and Wilker will both appear on the general election ballot, along with Jared Deubler and Cameron Aller.

Eight candidates are running for four open seats on New Bremen Local Schools Board of Education.

The terms of four of the five current board members - Eric Dicke, Michele Bambauer, Michelle Busse and Suzanne Wells - expire at the end of the year. Dicke was the only incumbent who filed to run.

Dicke will appear on the general election ballot, along with Casey Rammel, Kacie Anne Pape, Logan O'Neill, Scott McCollum, Maylani Maurer, Abbey Lang and Preston Carr.

Two candidates are running for three open seats on Minster Local Schools Board of Education.

The terms of three of the five current board members - Richard Bruns, Nicholas Rentz and Stephanie Sommer - expire at the end of the year. Bruns and Sommer both filed to run, but Rentz did not.

No one else filed to run.

Three candidates are running for three open seats on New Knoxville Local School Board of Education.

The terms of three of the five current board members - Brittany Kay Clark, Shawn Egbert and Jack Wellman - expire at the end of the year. Clark and Wellman both filed to run, but Egbert did not.

Clark and Wellman will appear on the general election ballot, along with Brent Schwieterman.

Two candidates are running for two open seats on the Auglaize County Educational Service Center Board of Governors.

The terms of two of the five current board members - Holly Turner and Matt Dwenger - expire at the end of the year. Turner and Dwenger were the only people who filed to run.

Village councils

Four candidates are running for five open seats on New Bremen Village Council.

The terms of five of the six current councilors - Scott Bertke, Dennis Burnell, Dan Condon, Amanda Hurley and Steven Pulskamp - expire at the end of the year. Bertke, Burnell, Condon and Hurley filed to run, but Pulskamp did not.

No one else filed.

Four candidates are running for four open seats on Minster Village Council.

The terms of four of the six current councilors - Curt Albers, Craig Sherman, Trey Steele and Travis Wilges - expire at the end of the year. All four filed to run.

No one other than the four incumbents filed to run.

Four candidates are running for five open seats on New Knoxville Village Council.

The terms of five of the six current councilors - Stanley Wietholter, Carolyn Bock, Brian Jones, Brooks Mason and Duane Stienecker - expire at the end of the year. Bock, Mason and Stienecker filed to run again, but Wietholter did not.

No one else filed to run.

Township trustees

A candidate is running for one of two open seats on the German Township Board of Trustees.

The terms of two of the three current trustees - David Albers and Robert Heitkamp -- expire at the end of the year. Only Albers filed to run.

No one else filed to run.

A candidate is running for one of two open seats on the Jackson Township Board of Trustees.

The terms of two of the three current trustees - Kenneth Sommer and James Steinemann - expire at the end of the year. Only Steinemann filed to run.

Gregory Stueve also filed to run but his petitions were invalidated by the board of elections.

Two candidates are running for two open seats on the Noble Township Board of Trustees.

The terms of two of the three current trustees - Brian Cook and Grant Shaner - expire at the end of the year. Both filed to run.

No one else filed to run.

Two candidates are running for two open seats on the Salem Township Board of Trustees.

The terms of two of the three current trustees - Jeff Pratte and Richard Seibert - expire at the end of the year. Both filed to run.

No one else filed to run.

A candidate is running for one of two open seats on the St. Marys Township Board of Trustees. The terms of two of the three current trustees - Chad Elshoff and Allen Imwalle - expire at the end of the year. Only Elshoff filed to run..

No one else filed to run.

Two candidates are running for two open seats on the Washington Township Board of Trustees.

The terms of two of the three current trustees - Tim Becher and Nick Schoenlein - expire at the end of the year. Only Schoenlein filed to run.
