John Schroer
John H. Schroer, 90, of New Knoxville, Ohio, died 10:15 P.M. Friday, September 19, 2025, at Otterbein Senior Living Community in Saint Marys.
He was born March 26, 1935, in New Knoxville, the son of Ewald and Esther (Holtkamp) Schroer. He married Norma Allman on November 256, 1955, at Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys, and she survives at Otterbein Saint Marys.
He is also survived by his three sons Scott (Chris) Schroer of New Knoxville; Tim (Andrew Nelson) Schroer of Northfield, Minnesota; and Dan (Lori) Schroer of Wapakoneta. He is survived by his grandchildren Reagan, Nate, Ellie, Nick and Amanda; and by his great-grandchildren Madison and Marin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Larson.
John was a 1953 graduate of New Knoxville High School. He was a lifelong farmer and carpenter, working with Lee Schroer. He served as a Washington Township Trustee for 24 years and on the New Knoxville School Board for 8 years, 6 as President. He served as treasurer of the Farmers Home Mutual Company, on the Producers Livestock Board and as a Democrat committeeman in Auglaize County. He had been a great baseball player in his youth and still enjoyed watching the Reds play.
John was a lifelong member of the First Church of New Knoxville, where he had served as a Deacon, Elder, Trustee and Sunday School Superintendent. He and Norma helped organize and sent care packages to soldiers through Operation New Knoxville Cares.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the First Church of New Knoxville, the Reverend Joel Bucklin, officiant. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services on Wednesday in the Prayer Room of the First Church of New Knoxville, where memorial gifts may be given to the Church.
Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home, 200 West Spring Street, New Knoxville, is entrusted with John's funeral arrangements.
