Park project nearly done
Photo by Paige Sutter/The Daily Standard

The Grand Lake community will soon have a new lakeside recreation facility, Lake Improvement Association president Brian Morris reports. The West Bank Playground and Shelter House project is nearing completion on Grand Lake St. Marys State Park property in Celina. A new playground with surrounding fencing was installed over the summer, and the junior construction class at Tri Star Career Compact finished a 24-foot by 36-foot shelter house in mid-October. The facility also includes an adult swing that serves as a memorial to Milt Miller, who did much for the lake and for lake restoration efforts over the years. After some final additions this month, LIA hopes to hold a ribbon-cutting before the end of the year. Along with the Grand Lake Recreation Club, which spearheaded the shelter house effort, Morris said more than 25 businesses and organizations made contributions to the project.
